For an address in Halton, it also names the Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB) school whose 2026–27 attendance area the address is in, for each program, shown with HCDSB’s permission. It does not check any other board’s attendance areas, or flooding. The “Choose a school” mode lists the publicly funded schools in Burlington, Halton Hills, Milton, Mississauga and Oakville and links each one to its school board’s own address check; it maps the attendance areas of HCDSB schools only, and does not draw or guess any other board’s. It describes places and distances only, never the people who live nearby. Places of worship are not listed, and faith-based schools, child care and cultural associations are left out wherever the map’s tags or names show them.

Where the information comes from

Addresses are found with Photon, a free address search built on OpenStreetMap data, with OpenStreetMap’s Nominatim service as a backup.

Places, roads, rail lines and land uses come from a copy of OpenStreetMap made on October 22, 2026. Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database Licence. The tags and filters used are listed in how the extract is made.

The school list in “Choose a school” is the Ontario Ministry of Education’s school information for the 2024–25 school year: names, boards, grades, languages and addresses only. Each school’s city is checked against its postal code and Ontario’s municipal boundaries, and its position against OpenStreetMap; where the list is wrong, the correction is shown on the school’s page. Contains information licensed under the Open Government Licence – Ontario. How the list is made.

HCDSB attendance areas come from the Halton Catholic District School Board’s (HCDSB) school attendance boundaries for the 2026–27 school year, copied on November 2, 2026 and shown with HCDSB’s permission. School boundaries and attendance arrangements can change, and HCDSB does not guarantee this copy of its boundary information. Confirm any address with HCDSB. HCDSB’s own address check is HCDSB Find Your School. The streets drawn on those maps are OpenStreetMap data (© OpenStreetMap contributors, Open Database Licence). How the HCDSB areas and maps are made.

School attendance areas are set by the school boards, and flood and regulated areas are mapped by the conservation authorities. Every result links to their own lookup tools.

The address you type is not saved to a database or log and never appears in the page address. To find it on the map, it is sent to Photon and, when Photon does not answer or cannot confirm the house number, to Nominatim. A lookup may be held briefly in server memory so a repeat search does not go out again.

Questions about the tool

Is the address I type saved?

It is not saved to a database or log, and it never appears in the page address. To find the location, the address is sent to Photon, a free address search built on OpenStreetMap, and also to OpenStreetMap’s Nominatim service when Photon does not answer or cannot confirm the house number.

Does a nearby school mean a home is in its attendance area?

No. School boards set attendance areas, and the closest school is not always the assigned one. Check the address with the board’s own lookup tool before relying on it.

Can it tell me which streets are in a school’s attendance area?

Only for Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB) schools. HCDSB has given permission to show its school attendance boundaries for the 2026–27 school year, so for an address in Halton the tool names the HCDSB school whose area it is in for each program, and each HCDSB school’s page in the “Choose a school” mode maps its area. HCDSB is the source; school boundaries and attendance arrangements can change, and HCDSB does not guarantee this copy, so confirm any address with HCDSB’s Find Your School. Each school board sets its own attendance areas, and they change through boundary reviews, holding schools for new neighbourhoods, enrolment caps and separate French Immersion boundaries. No other board has given permission to reuse its boundary data, and none publishes it under a reuse licence, so for their schools the “Choose a school” mode names the school’s board and links to the board’s own address check instead. Check the exact address with the board before you buy or lease.

Why is a place I know missing, or still listed after it closed?

The places come from OpenStreetMap, which volunteers keep up to date, and this tool uses a copy of the map that is refreshed from time to time. Some places are missing or out of date. The date of the copy is shown with every result.

Does this show flood risk?

No. Flood and regulated areas are mapped by the local conservation authority. Conservation Halton, Credit Valley Conservation and the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority each have a public map, linked with every result.

Looking at a home in Milton, Oakville or Mississauga?
