Glenorchy, Oakville: Neighbourhood Guide

A newer community north of Dundas Street, where local agents’ guides date the start of building to 2011 or 2012. Here is what has been selling, how the names Glenorchy and The Preserve fit together, and which schools, parks and bus routes serve it.

Where Glenorchy is

TRREB counts Glenorchy as one of its Oakville communities, but its quarterly report doesn’t list boundary streets, and the report’s cover map doesn’t label it. A local real estate agent’s guide (not an official source) puts it north of Dundas Street and south of Highway 407, between Sixteen Mile Creek and Trafalgar Road. A real estate team’s guide (also not official) uses Neyagawa Boulevard as the western edge instead, and another agent’s guide (also not official) maps an outline with those same four edges: Dundas Street, Trafalgar Road, Highway 407 and Neyagawa Boulevard.

Names overlap here. Local agents’ guides (not official sources) say Glenorchy is also known as, or frequently called, The Preserve. Another agent’s guide (also not official) treats The Preserve as a pocket on Glenorchy’s west side, between Neyagawa Boulevard and Sixth Line north of Dundas Street, with Glenorchy running east to Trafalgar Road. Some of these guides also pair Glenorchy with Sixteen Hollow, which one of them describes as freehold townhomes built in 2016 and 2017, but TRREB reports Sixteen Hollow as a separate community, with 1 sale in the quarter.

Two local real estate guides (not official sources) differ on when building began: one says construction started in 2012, the other that development began in 2011. On any of the agents’ outlines above, Glenorchy sits within the lands north of Dundas Street and south of Highway 407 between Sixteen Mile Creek and Ninth Line, the area a Town study of the North Oakville East Secondary Plan focused on. Conservation Halton’s 2010 master plan for the Glenorchy Conservation Area says that secondary plan was approved on January 11, 2008.

The community shares its name with that conservation area, about 400 hectares of provincially owned land where Sixteen Mile Creek cuts through a deep gorge with forested slopes and shale bluffs. It became a conservation area in 2008, and Conservation Halton has been restoring it since the following year as part of the North Oakville Natural Heritage System and the Ontario Greenbelt; it is listed among Conservation Halton’s restoration projects, not its parks. Its master plan says the name was chosen in a contest for Oakville residents and comes from a small community that once stood near today’s Highway 407, Burnhamthorpe Road and Fourth Line.

Homes and recent sales

Every main home type sold here in TRREB’s report for April to June 2026: 41 of Glenorchy’s 86 sales were detached houses, along with 24 attached or row townhouses, 18 condo apartments, 2 condo townhouses and 1 semi. New listings ran well ahead of sales, at 277 for the quarter.

Condo apartments were slower to sell. TRREB’s charts show 78 new condo apartment listings against 18 sales, a sales-to-new-listings ratio of 23%, and an average of 44 days on the market, against 26 days for both detached houses and townhouses. Detached houses had 101 new listings and a ratio of 41%.

The overall median of $1,113,500 mixes very different homes: condo apartments had a median of about $515K, townhouses about $1,025K and detached houses about $1,700K, so compare a home with recent sales of the same type. Because TRREB’s cover map doesn’t label Glenorchy, treat the boundary behind its figures as approximate.

Rules along Dundas Street may change. In June 2026 the Town gave notice of a proposed amendment for the lands north of Dundas Street in the Dundas Urban Core Area, meant to support bus rapid transit: within 50 metres of the Dundas Street right-of-way, only apartment, mixed-use and commercial buildings would be permitted, and buildings with homes in them would need to be at least six storeys. A public meeting was set for July 7, 2026, so if a purchase near Dundas depends on what can be built around it, check the amendment’s status with the Town.

Schools

School assignment goes by street address, and both boards are redrawing boundaries in parts of Oakville. Before you rely on any school below, check the exact address with the HDSB’s Find Local School tool and the HCDSB’s Find Your School tool.

Two HDSB elementary schools, both Kindergarten to Grade 8, have Glenorchy addresses. Oodenawi Public School is at 385 Sixteen Mile Dr. Dr. David R. Williams Public School (3199 Post Rd) opened in September 2020 and says it has about 1,150 students.

HDSB secondary boundaries north of Dundas are changing. In May 2026, trustees approved boundaries for the new Oakville NE #1 High School, which the board anticipates will open in September 2027, and both schools were among the elementary schools included in that review. The new boundaries are being phased in over three-plus years. The board says French Immersion boundaries north of Dundas still depend on its Northwest Oakville elementary review, which trustees widened in June 2026 to include Dr. David R. Williams PS; any change from it could take effect as early as September 2027.

On the Catholic side, Sixth Line divides the area. St. Gregory the Great Catholic Elementary School is at 138 Sixteen Mile Dr, and its 2026–27 boundary map covers the land north of Dundas Street from Sixth Line west across Sixteen Mile Creek, including the streets around Sixteen Mile Drive and Preserve Drive. It is in the St. Ignatius of Loyola family of schools, and the 2026–27 map for St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Secondary School (1550 Nottinghill Gate) takes in the same land. East of Sixth Line, the 2026–27 maps for St. Cecilia Catholic Elementary School (420 Threshing Mill Blvd) and Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School (2420 Sixth Line) cover the land north of Dundas Street from Sixth Line to Ninth Line.

Parks, recreation and shopping

The Town’s Sixteen Mile Sports Complex (3070 Neyagawa Blvd) sits on a 79-hectare community park that takes in part of the Sixteen Mile Creek valley. Its four-pad arena opened in 2010, with three NHL-sized ice surfaces and an Olympic-sized pad that seats 1,500. A new community centre and the Oakville Public Library’s Sixteen Mile Branch opened there in spring 2026, adding a 25-metre lap pool, a warm-water pool, a fitness centre with an indoor track and a double gym.

Outside, the park has lit sports fields, one with artificial turf, a cricket field, basketball, pickleball and tennis courts, a playground and a splash pad. The Town lists a 1,400 square-metre skateboard park with bowls up to 10 feet deep, a 130-metre pump track and a leash-free dog park at Sixteen Mile Sports Park, 3170 Neyagawa Blvd.

Neighbourhood parks include Isaac Park (3086 Isaac Ave) and Fowley Park (95 Fowley Dr), both with splash pads. A local real estate agent’s guide (not an official source) adds that Isaac Park has a playground, soccer fields and two shade pavilions, and lists Emily Cline Park and George Savage Park among the area’s other parks. For shopping, the same guide points to the Fortinos plaza, the RioCan centre and the Oak Park Smart Centre, along with street-level shops and services inside the neighbourhood.

Getting around

Oakville Transit Route 37 is named Glenorchy and starts at the Uptown Core Terminal (271 Oak Walk Dr). Its westbound trips run by way of Sixteen Mile Drive to Neyagawa Boulevard, with timed stops at Sixteen Mile and Preserve, Dundas West and Neyagawa, Neyagawa and North Park, and Wheat Boom and Ernest Appelbe; its eastbound trips run to Eighth Line. Some trips, marked 37A, also stop at King’s Christian Collegiate.

Route 5 runs along Dundas Street with timed stops at Sixth Line and at Neyagawa, east through the Uptown Core and west, by way of a timed stop called Hospital West Entrance, to the Highway 407 GO Carpool at Dundas Street in Burlington. Route 1 runs from Oakville GO by way of Sheridan College and the Uptown Core north along Trafalgar Road, with a timed stop at Threshing Mill, to the Highway 407 GO Carpool at Trafalgar Road.

Oakville Transit connects with GO buses at that carpool lot and at Sheridan College, and with GO trains at Oakville GO (214 Cross Ave), on the Lakeshore West line, where VIA Rail trains also stop. The Oakville Transit fare is free when you connect to or from GO Transit and tap a PRESTO card.
