Where River Oaks is
Local real estate guides (not official sources) agree that River Oaks runs from Upper Middle Road north to Dundas Street, with Trafalgar Road on the east. They differ on the west edge: one agent’s guide uses Sixteen Mile Creek, while a real estate team’s guide stops at Neyagawa Boulevard. Wikipedia’s summary of the Town’s planning communities notes that River Oaks includes the Oak Park development.
HoodQ, a third-party data service, describes River Oaks as developed in the 1990s and early 2000s, with some building still going on, and a housing mix that runs from detached and semi-detached homes to townhomes and low- and high-rise condos.
A pioneer landmark sits on the Dundas Street edge. Munn’s Cemetery, at the south-east corner of Dundas Street East and Sixth Line, was established in 1820 and designated by the Town under the Ontario Heritage Act in 1993. Canada’s Register of Historic Places links it to Daniel Munn, who received a Crown grant in 1808 and ran a farm, a tavern and a stagehouse; as travellers on Governor’s Road stopped there, the area became known as Munn’s corner.
At the north-east corner, the Uptown Core is one of the Town’s growth areas; its Centre District is bounded by Oak Park Boulevard on the west and south, Dundas Street on the north and Trafalgar Road on the east. The Town is reviewing the area’s planning policies. On September 22, 2025, Planning and Development Council referred the review back to staff to look again at density, height and transitions, office and retail space, and timing with the Province on bus rapid transit along Dundas Street and Trafalgar Road.

Schools
School assignment goes by street address, and both boards are redrawing boundaries in parts of Oakville. Before you rely on any school below, check the exact address with the HDSB’s Find Local School tool and the HCDSB’s Find Your School tool.
River Oaks Public School is at 2173 Munn’s Ave and Post’s Corners Public School at 2220 Caldwell Dr. Post’s Corners describes itself as a Kindergarten to Grade 8 school with 672 students and lists French Immersion and Core French.
Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School is at 2420 Sixth Line, and its 2026–27 boundary map takes in River Oaks. Two schools in its family also have River Oaks addresses: Our Lady of Peace Catholic Elementary School (391 River Glen Blvd) and St. Andrew Catholic Elementary School (145 Millbank Dr).
HDSB secondary boundaries are changing too. In May 2026, trustees approved boundaries for the new Oakville NE #1 High School, which the board anticipates will open in September 2027, and the same decision adjusts the English and French Immersion programs at Garth Webb, T. A. Blakelock and White Oaks secondary schools. It is being phased in over three-plus years.
Parks, trails and recreation
River Oaks Community Centre (2400 Sixth Line) has a twin-pad arena, a fitness centre with an indoor track, two squash and two racquetball courts, a community room with a sports floor for badminton, basketball, pickleball and volleyball, and programs for people 50 and over through the River Oaks Mature Adults Club.
Munn’s Creek Park (153 River Oaks Blvd W) and Neyagawa Park (540 River Glen Blvd) have splash pads, and Memorial Park (120 Oak Park Blvd) has a leash-free dog park and outdoor fitness equipment.
Creek trails cross the neighbourhood. The Town’s Munn’s Creek and Shannon Creek trails run from River Glen Boulevard to Neyagawa Boulevard and Upper Middle Road East, and the Shannon Creek trail connects to the Sixteen Mile Creek Trail. The Nipigon Trail runs south from Memorial Park along Sixth Line to Upper Middle Road East.
For shopping, a local real estate agent’s guide (not an official source) points to the Oak Park shopping centre’s big-box stores and restaurants, the plazas along Trafalgar Road, and a RioCan centre at Neyagawa Boulevard and Dundas Street.
