What City Centre covers

City Centre is Mississauga’s downtown, built around Square One Shopping Centre. Wikipedia (not an official source) puts its core between Confederation Parkway, Hurontario Street, Webb Drive and Centre View Drive, and notes a newer high-rise corridor along Confederation Parkway between Rathburn Road and Burnhamthorpe Road.

According to Wikipedia, the corner of Hurontario Street and Burnhamthorpe Road was once a rural hamlet called Payne’s Corners, and the area was mostly farmland before 1973. Developer Bruce McLaughlin began buying farms there in the 1950s. Square One opened on October 3, 1973, and the Mississauga Civic Centre, the City’s hall, opened in July 1987.

Wikipedia lists more than 360 stores and services at Square One (100 City Centre Drive). The Absolute World complex at Burnhamthorpe and Hurontario includes the curving twin towers, 50 and 56 storeys tall, nicknamed after Marilyn Monroe.

Homes and recent sales

City Centre is a condo market. In TRREB’s report for April to June 2026, 145 of its 148 sales were condo apartments and the other 3 were condo townhouses; TRREB recorded no detached, semi-detached or freehold townhouse sales. Condo apartments averaged about $497K, with a median of about $485K, and averaged 35 days on the market.

Supply was heavy. TRREB counted 485 new condo apartment listings in the quarter, a sales-to-new-listings ratio of 30%, and 264 active listings across the community. Where you can, compare a unit with recent sales in the same building rather than with the area average.

Schools and college

School assignment goes by street address. Before you rely on any school below, check the exact address with the Peel District School Board’s School Finder and with the Peel Region “Which School do I Attend?” tool, which the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board links for families and which covers both boards.

For a condo, enter the building’s street address in both tools.

Sheridan College’s Hazel McCallion Campus (4180 Duke of York Boulevard) is downtown. Sheridan says it is home to the Pilon School of Business, was built to LEED Gold standards and has 4,400 full-time students; Wikipedia notes its first phase opened in 2011.

Celebration Square, library and parks

Celebration Square, at Burnhamthorpe Road West and Duke of York Boulevard, is home to hundreds of free festivals, concerts and events. The City lists an outdoor fountain in summer and an ice rink in winter, plus food vendors, turf space and shaded gardens.

Hazel McCallion Central Library (301 Burnhamthorpe Road West) first opened on September 23, 1991, closed on March 20, 2021 for a major renovation and reopened in late 2023. It has a makerspace.

Scholars’ Green Phase 2, a 1.5-acre park the City built with partial funding from Sheridan College, adds open lawns, an outdoor fitness area, café-style seating, fixed ping pong tables and a multi-use trail along Rathburn Road West. Wikipedia notes that the Living Arts Centre, a performing arts venue, opened in 1997, and that the YMCA is at 325 Burnhamthorpe Road West, across from the Central Library.

Getting around

The City Centre Transit Terminal (200 Rathburn Road West), on the north-west corner of Square One, is what the City calls Mississauga’s main transit hub, and it is part of the Mississauga Transitway. Its routes include 2 Hurontario to Port Credit GO and 9 Rathburn to Churchill Meadows.

GO buses use the Square One GO Bus Terminal at 210 Centre View Drive, which GO lists with 341 free parking spaces and connections to MiWay and Brampton Transit.

Metrolinx’s Hazel McCallion Line, under construction along Hurontario Street, has two work zones in its Mississauga Centre section, from Matthews Gate to Square One Drive and on to Eglinton Avenue. A separate Downtown Mississauga Extension, meant to connect the City Centre to the line, is at the planning and design stage; the Province advanced funding for its planning in March 2024. Neither Metrolinx page gives an opening date.
