Hurontario, Mississauga: Homes and Neighbourhood Guide
Hurontario shares its name with the street that runs through it, and sits north of Highway 403 and Mississauga’s City Centre. Here is how the City and TRREB map it, what sold in TRREB’s latest quarterly report, the schools, parks and community centre, and where the light rail line under construction stands.

Where Hurontario is
The City’s Official Plan, in effect since March 24, 2026, maps a Hurontario Neighbourhood Character Area bounded by Mavis Road to the west, Highway 403 to the south and east, and roughly Matheson Boulevard to the north. Its map leaves out the blocks along Hurontario Street from just north of Eglinton Avenue down to Highway 403.
TRREB reports Hurontario as one of its Mississauga communities, and its map places it north of City Centre and west of Rathwood. The City and TRREB draw their lines for different purposes, so for a particular listing, check the MLS® community TRREB assigns.
Wikipedia (not an official source) says Hurontario Street was created in 1818 and that its name joins those of Lake Huron and Lake Ontario, the lakes at either end. It adds that traffic reporters and residents still call the street Highway 10, although the province transferred that part of the highway to Mississauga and Brampton in 1997. The street is also the line where cross streets split into East and West, which is why Bristol Road and Eglinton Avenue change from West to East as they cross it.
Britannia Farm and the old schoolhouse
Britannia Farm (5520 Hurontario Street) is one of the Peel District School Board’s field centres for outdoor education. The board says King William IV granted 200 acres of land as an educational trust in 1833, with farm revenue meant to support the Old Britannia Schoolhouse and education in the County of Peel. The entrance to the farm’s sugar bush is off McLaughlin Road.
The Old Britannia Schoolhouse (5576 Hurontario Street) was a working school from 1852 until it closed in 1959, and the board notes that Hurontario Street was then a rough country road. Since 1982, students have been able to visit for first-person re-enactments of pioneer life, although the board’s page says this program is currently on hold. Its entrance is off Matheson Boulevard, through the board’s HJA Brown Education Centre.
Heritage Mississauga (not an official source) calls the schoolhouse a visible reminder of the old village of Britannia, which grew up around the intersection of Britannia Road and Hurontario Street and once had a wagon shop, a carpenter shop, a general store and a blacksmith shop. For the lands at the north-west corner of Hurontario Street and Bristol Road West, the City’s Official Plan says public open space and roads will be designed to create view connections to Britannia Farm, and requires a development master plan to show how buildings and landscaping next to the farm will respect its natural and heritage attributes. The same master plan must address any relocation of the designated heritage buildings on that site.
Homes and recent sales
Sales here are spread across every home type. In TRREB’s report for April to June 2026, 56 of Hurontario’s 144 sales were condo apartments and 40 were detached houses, with 24 condo townhouses, 15 freehold townhouses, 7 semis and 2 in TRREB’s “other” category. The overall median ($808,000) and average ($807,680) were almost the same.
Freehold townhouses had 15 sales against 17 new listings, a sales-to-new-listings ratio of 88% in TRREB’s chart, and sold on average at 101% of list price. Condo apartments had 56 sales against 165 new listings, a ratio of 34%, and averaged 35 days on the market. Compare a home with recent sales of the same type, not with the area average.
The City’s Official Plan sets specific rules for two corners of Hurontario Street and Bristol Road. At the north-west corner it places buildings of up to 20 storeys near the intersection and requires a development master plan that, among other things, provides a range of housing types and affordable housing; at the south-east corner it permits two apartment buildings of up to 18 and 24 storeys.

Schools
School assignment goes by street address. Before you rely on any school below, check the exact address with the Peel District School Board’s School Finder and with the Peel Region “Which School do I Attend?” tool, which the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board links for families and which covers both boards.
West of Hurontario Street, these schools in the area appear in the Rick Hansen family of the PDSB’s 2025–26 Directions guide: Champlain Trail Public School (895 Ceremonial Drive, Kindergarten to Grade 5 plus French Immersion from Grade 1), Cooksville Creek Public School (5100 Salishan Circle) and Huntington Ridge Public School (345 Huntington Ridge Drive), both Kindergarten to Grade 5, and Fairwind Senior Public School (5235 Fairwind Drive, Grades 6 to 8). The family’s secondary schools are Rick Hansen Secondary School (1150 Dream Crest Road) and Peel Alternative School Central (Grades 9 to 12), which is at the board’s HJA Brown Education Centre, 5650 Hurontario Street.
East of Hurontario Street, the guide’s Applewood Heights family includes Barondale Public School (200 Barondale Drive) and Nahani Way Public School (235 Nahani Way), both Kindergarten to Grade 5 plus French Immersion from Grade 1, and Bristol Road Middle School (210 Bristol Road East, Grades 6 to 8 with French Immersion). That family’s secondary school is Applewood Heights Secondary School (945 Bloor Street East).
The same guide lists Catholic schools alongside each family. Those with addresses in the area are St. Francis Xavier Catholic Secondary School (50 Bristol Road West), St. Hilary (5070 Fairwind Drive) and St. Matthew (280 Kingsbridge Garden Circle) with the Rick Hansen family, and San Lorenzo Ruiz (100 Barondale Drive), St. Jude (175 Nahani Way) and St. Pio of Pietrelcina (4765 Huron Heights Drive) with the Applewood Heights family. The five elementary schools teach JK to Grade 8. These are board groupings, not boundaries, so confirm any address with the tools above.
Community centre, library and parks
Frank McKechnie Community Centre (310 Bristol Road East) is named after a former Ward 5 councillor who, the City says, served as an elected official for 39 years. It has a six-lane indoor pool with a toddlers’ play pool, a whirlpool and a slide, a gymnasium, an activity studio and rooms for rent, with outdoor parking.
Frank McKechnie Library, inside the community centre, has served nearby communities since 2000, and the library gives Bristol Road East and Kennedy Road as the closest major intersection. McKechnie Woods, a City park at the same 310 Bristol Road East address, is open daily from dawn until 11 p.m.
Fairwinds Park (5047 Fairwind Drive), at the corner of Eglinton Avenue and Fairwind Drive, was built in 2021. Cooksville Creek runs diagonally through it, and the City lists an adventure playground, two tennis courts, a basketball court, two outdoor fitness stations, an open playfield, a natural ice rink, trail lighting and an interactive public art feature. Fire Station 120, built in 2019, shares the site.
Getting around
MiWay Route 17 Hurontario runs every day along Hurontario Street between the City Centre Transit Terminal and the Highway 407 Park and Ride, and Route 103 Hurontario Express runs every day between Brampton Gateway Terminal and Trillium Health Centre (Mississauga). Route 10 Bristol runs every day between Meadowvale Town Centre and the City Centre Transit Terminal, using Bristol Road through the area.

Metrolinx is building the Hazel McCallion Line, a light rail line with 19 stops between Port Credit GO and Brampton Gateway Terminal along Hurontario Street. Its Mississauga North section starts at Eglinton Avenue, with Work Zone 10 running to Matheson Boulevard and Work Zone 11 on to Britannia Road. In January 2023 Metrolinx said the first of the line’s stops to be built would go in the centre of Hurontario Street, north of Matheson Boulevard, and the City’s Official Plan refers to a stop planned at Hurontario Street and Bristol Road West.
In its Mississauga North construction notice, with information as of October 6, 2026 and covering October 1 to December 31, 2026, Metrolinx lists track installation and maintenance, electrical and telecommunications work, roadwork, stop shelters, landscaping and light rail vehicle testing as current work between Eglinton Avenue and Topflight Drive. Its Mississauga Centre notice of the same date, which covers Hurontario Street from Burnhamthorpe Road to Eglinton Avenue, lists completing the elevated guideway over Highway 403 among upcoming work. Neither notice nor the project page gives an opening date, so this guide doesn’t either.
