Facts checked · every source is listed at the bottom of the page
General information from the official pages listed. Services, phone numbers and rules change, so check the linked page before you rely on it.
Town of Milton
The Town’s contact page gives weekday hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding holidays, and sends Halton Region questions to 311.

The Town’s own starting page for new residents: utilities, emergency services, recreation, transit, health services, newcomer support and schools.
Pay your property taxes
The interim bill is issued at the end of February and the final bill at the end of June. Pay through online banking, by mail, in person at Town Hall or by autopay through the tax portal. If you just bought, your roll number changes, so update it in your online banking.
Parking regulations
On-street parking is limited to five hours, and there is no parking from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. There is also no on-street parking during snowstorms and snow removal.
By-law enforcement
Complaints about noise, property standards, littering or dumping, parking and animals: online, in person at Town Hall, or 905-878-7252 ext. 2137 on weekdays.
Report a problem
Online reports for potholes, damaged sidewalks and signs, streetlights, Town-owned trees, graffiti, parks and trails, and winter maintenance.

Milton Public Library
A library card is free if you live, work or go to school in Milton.

Questions about settling in to Milton
How do I set up water billing when I move to Milton?
Water and wastewater are Halton Region services, and in Milton they are billed through Milton Hydro, which acts as the billing agent. Milton Hydro asks for at least 48 business hours’ notice to set up a new account, by phone at (905) 876-4611 or with its online Application for Service. Residential accounts are billed monthly for hydro and every two months for water and wastewater. If the account isn’t set up before your move-in date, Milton Hydro says the service will be disconnected and a reconnection charge may apply.
Which school board serves my address?
Four boards serve Milton: the Halton District School Board (public, English), the Halton Catholic District School Board (Catholic, English), Conseil scolaire Viamonde (public, French) and Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir (Catholic, French). Assignment goes by home address. The HDSB’s Find Local School tool shows the English and French Immersion home school for an address, and the HCDSB’s School Finder Tool searches by home address. The HDSB also points families moving into a new area to its boundary review page.
When is garbage day in Milton?
It depends on your address. Halton Region’s online schedule shows your garbage, Green Cart, recycling, yard waste and bulk collection days, and can send you free email or phone reminders. The Green Cart goes out every week and garbage every other week. Put items out by 7 a.m. on collection day and no earlier than 5 p.m. the evening before. Since January 1, 2026, Blue Box recycling has been overseen by Circular Materials Ontario.
How do I get an Ontario health card after moving to Milton?
You apply in person at a ServiceOntario centre. Ontario says there is no longer a waiting period for OHIP coverage, so if you are eligible you can apply as soon as you arrive in Ontario. Both Milton ServiceOntario centres, at 2800 Highpoint Drive and in Milton Mall at 55 Ontario Street South, list applying for a health card among their services. Check Ontario’s page for the documents to bring.
How do I find a family doctor in Milton?
Halton Region keeps a list of family doctors accepting new patients and points to two programs that do the search with you: Support House’s Find Your Family Doctor team and Ontario’s Health Care Connect, a provincial registry where a care connector looks for a doctor or nurse practitioner on your behalf. For help finding health services and supports in your area, the Region gives 811.
What is the police non-emergency number in Milton?
Milton is policed by the Halton Regional Police Service, whose non-emergency number is 905-825-4777. Use it when a crime is not in progress, there is no immediate threat and no one is hurt, or to make a report. Some incidents, such as theft under $5,000 or damage to a vehicle, can be reported online. For an emergency, dial 9-1-1.
